We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Advisor to join our team at the Navajo Technical University. As an Academic Advisor, you will play a vital role in supporting students in achieving their academic goals.

About the Role:

  • This is a full-time position that offers a competitive salary of $$56,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on experience.
  • The successful candidate will provide academic advising services to prospective, current, and former students, assessing their academic level and assisting in resolving individual academic problems.
  • You will also advise students on academic program changes, develop academic plans, and analyze applications, transfer evaluations, and transcripts.
  • In addition, you will maintain accurate records, develop and implement effective advising strategies, and collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure student success.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct campus tours for prospective students and families.
  • Assist as a Proctor in accuplacer testing for students.
  • Evaluate students' needs and develop appropriate educational plans.
  • Makes referrals for students who need assistance with overcoming learning obstacles or similar needs.
  • Meet with students to provide information and guidance on academic-related issues.
  • Collects and disseminates information to students, faculty, and departments about changes in major requirements or university policies.
  • Coordinates and participates in the advising-related portion of new/transfer student and parent orientation sessions.
  • Provides intervention services for students to track progress, referrals for tutoring, outside services, and early intervention to ensure student success.
  • Maintains students' academic files that include a record of the advising activity that takes place during each visit.
  • Prepares advising materials such as student information, advising guides, and recruitment materials.
  • Maintains confidential student records, documents all pertinent student information, and updates computerized information systems regarding changes to student status.
  • Serves on University committees and makes recommendations that affect curriculum requirements, advising processes, and program development.
  • Coordinates data compilation, statistical reports, and correspondence, depending upon the area of assignment.
  • Complies with all regulatory requirements for student record maintenance and storage.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, Education, or related field.
  • Three years of experience actively advising and counseling adults and young adults in a secondary or post-secondary academic setting.
  • Higher education experience preferred.
  • Valid state driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies.
