Essential Responsibilities:

Nutritional Assessment and Care Planning:

* Evaluate patients as referred by medical professionals, identifying those at high nutritional risk and developing appropriate medical nutrition therapy plans.

* Track patient progress to ensure the effectiveness of nutrition interventions and recommend adjustments as necessary.

* Execute care plans as prescribed.

Education and Training:

* Provide individual counseling to patients with diverse dietary needs based on age and health conditions.

* Conduct group nutrition education sessions.

* Mentor junior staff and Dietitian Assistants in patient care practices.

* Facilitate training for dietetic interns as required.

Communication Skills:

* Collaborate with the healthcare team to address patient nutrition issues, documenting relevant information in medical records.

* Participate in patient care teams to enhance the quality of care for specific patients.

* Communicate necessary changes in food service and clinical standards effectively.

* Collect and submit data for performance improvement and reporting purposes in a timely manner.

* Relay updates regarding patient food services to nursing and other departments as needed.

* Ensure clear communication of operational changes to all stakeholders.

* Assist in developing programs that meet the needs of both internal and external customers.

* Maintain compliance with data submission and reporting timelines.

Budget Management:

* Support budget planning and requests, maintaining awareness of budgetary compliance.

* Engage in cost control and waste reduction initiatives.

Food Safety and Sanitation:

* Adhere to food safety protocols and Mississippi State Board of Health regulations.

Professional Knowledge:

* Hold a B.S. degree in Foods & Nutrition or a related field.

* Be a Registered or registry-eligible dietitian as defined by the Commission on Dietetic Registration/American Dietetic Association.

* Obtain state licensure within two months if not already licensed.

* Fulfill continuing education requirements.

* Demonstrate proficiency in nutrition care across various patient demographics including infants, children, adults, and geriatrics.

* Utilize available resources effectively to address patient care challenges.

* Stay informed and compliant with current JCAHO and other regulatory standards relevant to practice.
