Job Overview

Under the guidance of the Chief Medical Officer, the Primary Care Physician delivers and oversees comprehensive healthcare services for a designated patient demographic.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conducts and oversees direct patient consultations, including thorough physical assessments, evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment plans for a specific patient group.
  2. Prescribes medications and treatment protocols tailored to the evaluated medical conditions.
  3. Refers patients to specialized care and relevant healthcare services as necessary.
  4. Mentors and supervises medical students and residents involved in specialized practices and procedures.
  5. May oversee the daily functions of a particular medical program, patient care unit, or research initiative.
  6. Coordinates and directs the patient care activities of nursing and support personnel as required.
  7. Adheres to established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives outlined in the healthcare plan, continuous quality improvement initiatives, and safety and infection control standards.
  8. Demonstrates the ability to perform at a level that meets national productivity benchmarks for federally qualified health centers.
  9. Participates in designated health promotion, education, and prevention initiatives as appropriate.
  10. Completes miscellaneous job-related tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES):

  1. Familiarity with legal and ethical standards governing medical care delivery.
  2. Understanding of relevant accreditation and certification standards.
  3. Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team setting.
  4. Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services within the area of expertise.
  5. Capability to supervise, guide, and educate clinical professionals and/or students in the relevant field.
  6. Awareness of current principles, methods, and procedures for medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment in the area of expertise.
  7. Ability to design and deliver educational programs and workshops.
  8. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  9. Capacity to uphold quality, safety, and infection control standards.
  10. Ability to observe, assess, and document symptoms, reactions, and patient progress.
  11. Knowledge of pertinent medications and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids, along with the ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients on proper usage.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. The role involves significant exposure to unusual elements, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

2. Moderate physical activity is required, including handling medical equipment and standing or walking for extended periods.

3. The work environment may involve exposure to potentially hazardous materials and situations necessitating adherence to extensive safety protocols, including the use of protective gear.

4. Interaction with patients who may present contagious blood or blood-borne pathogens is expected.

REQUIRED LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATION:

Must be licensed by the State of Illinois to practice medicine and meet the credentialing standards of affiliated healthcare facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Medical degree with 3 to 5 years of experience, including residency in a family practice program.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from a medical school accredited by the Council of Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association.

Note: Board certification or progress towards certification is required.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
