As a Calibration Engineer (Aerospace), your responsibilities will include planning, documenting, and executing methods for the verification and calibration of inspection, measuring, and testing instruments. You will ensure compliance with standards for all inspection, measuring, and testing equipment by overseeing the registration, identification, inspection, and calibration of all tools and instruments utilized by the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and comprehend critical safety components and processes related to flight and products.
- Promptly report any safety concerns regarding flight or product integrity.
- Engage in proactive risk assessments of critical safety components and processes.
- Understand and apply the Just Culture policy.
- Register, maintain, and calibrate inspection equipment according to technical data and procedures.
- Adjust calibration schedules to optimize equipment performance and minimize downtime.
- Develop and maintain calibration protocols for inspection, measuring, and testing instruments.
- Source qualified subcontractors for tooling that cannot be repaired or calibrated internally.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, modify, and align various equipment to original manufacturer specifications or local engineering directives.
- Provide expert guidance on the selection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of both new and existing inspection, measuring, and testing instruments.
- Calibrate and certify a range of Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE), from standard to complex laboratory reference standards.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all registered equipment, their calibration timelines, and results in accordance with applicable standards.
- Prepare calibration reports, data sheets, and other necessary documentation.
- Quarantine items deemed unserviceable or of inadequate quality.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, using personal protective equipment and following established safety regulations. Maintain tools and a clean, safe workspace, reporting any unsafe conditions immediately.
- May be required to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, and may be subject to recall.
- Undertake special projects as assigned.
- Must comply with ITAR regulations; US Citizenship is required.
- In-depth knowledge of precision inspection, measuring, and testing instruments and systems.
- Ability to utilize all relevant company guidelines, processes, and regulatory standards.
- Understanding of calibration principles, root cause analysis, and application of metrology principles.
- Strong planning, organizational, analytical, interpersonal, decision-making, and communication skills.
- High mechanical aptitude with a focus on accuracy and precision.
- Familiarity with electronic systems and control instruments, including the ability to interpret circuit schematics and detailed drawings.
- Proficient in applying established techniques for the repair, testing, alignment, and calibration of equipment.
- Experience with metrology-based data collection systems for documentation and traceability.
- Knowledge of Thermal and Fluid Flow principles.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Proficient in using PCs within the current company operating system.
- Thorough understanding of Measurement Uncertainty and Statistical Techniques relevant to metrology.
- Educational background in engineering technology or a related field; equivalent experience is acceptable.
- 5+ years of experience in calibrating electronic or physical/dimensional test and measurement equipment.
- Preferred: Former military PMEL/TMDE training and familiarity with ISO 17025 quality systems.
- Ability to resolve issues through collaboration with customers, vendors, and management.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Work Schedule: 4x10 hour days with 3 days off per week.
