Position Overview:

Summary:The Political Science Educator will be responsible for delivering engaging instruction to students enrolled in courses related to State and Federal Government, as well as other pertinent subjects within the General Education and Developmental Studies Department. This role includes teaching dual credit high school students and maintaining regular office hours. The instructor may also be required to teach extended day classes and hybrid/online courses, both on campus and at alternative locations. Participation in professional development activities, such as workshops and seminars, is essential for enhancing teaching effectiveness and contributing to curriculum development as necessary. All faculty members are expected to support the institution's commitment to Growth and Excellence.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster an interactive learning environment for students
  • Exhibit professional and ethical conduct
  • Stay informed about and comply with institutional policies and procedures
  • Engage in college service activities, including committee participation, student advising, and recruitment efforts
  • Deliver courses during the fall and spring semesters as assigned, which may include day, evening, weekend, and dual credit classes, including online formats
  • Provide guidance and support to dual credit instructors and students
  • Participate in professional development sessions to improve teaching methodologies
  • Remain knowledgeable about current trends and issues in education
  • Understand and apply relevant national, state, and local regulations pertaining to government education
  • Contribute to assessment initiatives for the Core Curriculum
  • Assist in curriculum development as needed
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:This role necessitates the ability to remain stationary for extended periods, occasionally move within an office environment to access necessary materials, and consistently operate office equipment such as computers and printers.Minimum Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Political Science or a related field, or a Master's degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Political Science
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Understanding of effective teaching strategies and methodologies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team
  • Excellent time management abilities
Preferred Qualifications:

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education teaching
  • Background in national, state, or local government or political affairs
  • Doctorate degree in the relevant subject area
  • Relevant certifications in the field
Compensation:

Salary is commensurate with experience.
