APRN - Behavioral Health Specialist

This is a unique opportunity to join the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas as an APRN - Behavioral Health. As a key member of our behavioral health team, you will play a vital role in evaluating and diagnosing patients with mental illness, making independent decisions about advanced practice clinical needs, and collaborating with psychiatrists to provide comprehensive care.
Responsibilities:- Conduct thorough interviews with patients to determine the basis of their condition and develop effective care plans.
- Manage acute and chronic mental illness through coordinated care plans, when appropriate, with the patient's primary care provider.
- Make referrals to internal disciplines and external resources/agencies for additional services required.
- Prescribe medications for patients in collaboration with psychiatrists or primary care providers.
- Monitor patient medication use and document treatment results.
- Ensure accurate, timely, and clear medical record documentation.
- Observe clinic protocols and guidelines, as well as scope of practice as determined by professional regulatory agencies.
- Supervise healthcare students as assigned.
- Provide clear written and oral communication to patients/guardians, and employees.
- Participate in quality improvement activities.
- Complete continuing medical/nursing education to ensure active licensure.
- Possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse in the state where nursing practice will occur or multistate license in nurse's resident state.
- Possession of a valid license as a Certified Nurse Practitioner with a focus/specialty in Psychiatric/Mental Health.
- Graduate of accredited advanced practice nursing program.
- Current National Nurse Practitioner certification with a specialty in Psychiatry/Mental Health.
- Completion of one-year experience in clinic setting, preferred.
This role requires the ability to sit and/or stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
