The Social Worker role is situated within a specialized residential setting, providing essential support to individuals with varying degrees of intellectual disabilities. This position is crucial for those facing significant behavioral challenges and/or complex medical needs that cannot be adequately addressed in less intensive environments. The Social Worker will report directly to the Division Director and will receive professional guidance from the Social Work Department at Murdoch.

Direct services will be delivered through personal interactions with clients and their families, while indirect services will encompass the execution of psychosocial assessments and the documentation of client progress. The Social Worker will also engage in additional responsibilities related to individual and divisional requirements as directed by the Division Director. As a key member of the interdisciplinary treatment team, the Social Worker will collaborate closely with clients, guardians, and professionals from various disciplines, as well as paraprofessionals employed by the center.

Scheduled work hours: 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday - Friday with some variations as required (e.g., QAR Rounds, FarmDay, Inclement Weather, etc.).

Required Minimum Training:
This position necessitates a four-year or higher degree from an accredited institution in social work. Candidates must possess either a Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) or a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work (BSW) accompanied by one year of relevant social work experience. This is a requirement for ICF/IID settings.

About Murdoch Developmental Center: Murdoch Developmental Center is a state-operated residential facility dedicated to serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It fosters a supportive community where professionals collaborate with individuals of diverse ages and abilities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
To be considered for this position, applicants must demonstrate the following competencies:
  • Comprehensive understanding of social work principles, methodologies, and policies;
  • Familiarity with techniques and trends in social work, particularly concerning mental health and intellectual disabilities;
  • In-depth knowledge of family dynamics, intervention strategies, and community resources;
  • Exceptional writing, communication, and interpersonal skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Teams and teleconferencing tools.
Additional Training/Experience: Experience working with individuals with severe to profound intellectual disabilities is preferred, along with strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Management Preferences: Experience in a residential care environment is advantageous.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
  • Master's degree in social work from an accredited institution;
  • OR Bachelor's degree in social work with one year of directly related experience;
  • OR Master's degree in a human services field with one year of directly related experience;
  • OR Bachelor's degree in a human services field with two years of directly related experience;
  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
