Salary: The estimated salary for this position is $65,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
Job Description: As a High School English Language Arts (ELA) teacher at Uncommon Schools, you will play a critical role in helping students develop a love of literature and improve their reading and writing skills. You will teach from a robust literature curriculum that prioritizes inclusive texts, emphasizes diversity, and prepares students for Advanced Placement (AP), SAT, and collegiate-level coursework.
Our ELA program focuses on helping students analyze complex texts, develop critical thinking skills, and express themselves effectively through writing. You will use a variety of instructional strategies to engage students, foster a love of learning, and promote a growth mindset.
Responsibilities: Some key responsibilities of this role include:
• Teaching high school English Language Arts courses to students in grades 9-12
• Developing and implementing engaging lesson plans that meet the needs of diverse learners
• Assessing student progress and adjusting instruction to meet individual needs
• Collaborating with colleagues to develop and implement school-wide initiatives
• Participating in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills
Required Skills and Qualifications: To be successful in this role, you will need:
• A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
• Relevant teaching experience and certification in English Language Arts
• Strong knowledge of ELA curriculum and pedagogy
• Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
