Job Overview

Position Title: Safety Academy Trainer

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver on-site OSHA and MSHA training sessions to various businesses and mining operations throughout the region.
  • Contribute to the design, marketing, and execution of safety training initiatives.
  • Create and implement COVID-19 health and safety training programs for local businesses.
  • Engage with businesses through personal outreach and phone communications to promote safety programs.
  • Utilize evaluation tools to assess the effectiveness of training programs.
  • Assist in maintaining federally mandated records for grant compliance.
  • Draft comprehensive safety plans tailored to client needs.
  • Actively participate in campus committees.
  • Maintain punctuality and regular attendance while fulfilling job responsibilities.
  • Adhere to the policies, procedures, and practices of Hutchinson Community College.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Coordinator of the Safety Academy.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • OSHA and MSHA Instructor Certifications or the ability to obtain them.
  • Preferred: At least two years of experience in the mining industry.
  • Preferred: Five years of experience in safety within general industry or construction.
  • Ability to instruct on a wide range of safety topics, including OSHA standards, health, accident prevention, and electrical safety.
  • Experience in teaching adults in higher education or workshop environments is preferred.
  • A college degree or relevant certification in health and safety training is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel 3-5 days per week, including overnight stays.
  • Possession of a valid Kansas driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Preferred: Training in first-aid and CPR.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is preferred.
  • Physical requirements may include lifting training equipment, standing, bending, and demonstrating safety procedures; excellent communication skills are essential.
  • Mental requirements include the ability to understand and follow basic instructions.
  • All qualifications must be met with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Alternative qualifications may be considered if they sufficiently meet the job requirements.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

This is a 12-month administrative staff position that is eligible for benefits. The role is at-will and exempt, with annual contract renewal contingent upon continued grant funding.
