Position Overview
A pharmacist is responsible for delivering patient care through direct operational and clinical services. They ensure the safe and effective use of medications by providing drug information, monitoring drug therapy, and overseeing pharmacy operations in accordance with departmental policies and state/federal regulations. Participation in staff development and departmental committees is expected. This role requires flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, depending on staffing needs and pharmacy workload.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately processes medication orders, manages drug distribution, administers medications, conducts diagnostic tests, and provides patient care. Ensures the appropriateness of drug therapy for diverse patient populations, including neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics. Aims to reduce turnaround time for services. - 40%
- Delivers clear, relevant, and timely responses to inquiries regarding drug information. - 15%
- Supervises pharmacy support staff; verifies the accuracy of their tasks. May act as the lead pharmacist to oversee workload and workflow. - 20%
- Completes pharmacy consultations and provides clinical services with proper documentation as part of departmental initiatives. - 10%
- Offers experiential education and training for pharmacy technicians, students, and new staff members. - 5%
- Acts as a liaison between pharmacy and assigned patient care areas, addressing distribution issues and ensuring proper storage of drug supplies. - 10%
- Bachelor's Degree - Graduation from an ACPE-accredited pharmacy program; PharmD preferred.
- No prior experience required; department-specific pharmacy experience is preferred.
- Must be licensed as a Pharmacist in South Carolina or eligible for licensure within three months of hire.
- Comprehensive knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology; strong mathematical, computer, and aseptic technique skills. - Required
- Familiarity with SCBOP/DHEC/DEA regulations. - Required
- Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with colleagues and supervisors. - Required
- Strong problem-solving abilities; capable of working in team environments and managing urgent situations. - Required
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier).
- Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
