The Account Representative provides administrative support to the Consolidated Billing Office (CBO). This role involves providing data entry, research, and project support in assigned units, working as a member of the billing team to ensure smooth operational flow and optimum customer satisfaction. The Account Representative ensures that all related documents are accurately sorted and separated to address billing needs and processes according to complex guidelines for each client and/or payor.
Key Responsibilities- Collects and audits patient charge slips and reports, obtaining missing information as needed.
- Assigns CPT-4 and ICD-9CM codes to medical services and diagnoses, enters charge data into the billing system, and verifies accuracy.
- Generates routine computer reports and printouts, reviews and corrects minor claim errors, and makes charge corrections as requested.
- Maintains files on documentation, prepares and distributes reports, and verifies insurance eligibility for assigned clinics.
- Reviews missing charges, contacts departments or providers to obtain missing information, and clears missing charges.
- Reviews Explanations of Benefits from third-party payors to determine if payment was made correctly and if denials can be re-billed.
- Prepares and reconciles payment batches accurately, corrects errors or problems, and inputs data into the billing system.
- Provides assistance and guidance to the billing staff in resolving payment-related issues and notifies supervisors of ongoing problems.
- High school or equivalent required.
- 2-3 years' experience in medical billing, coding, and charge entry required.
- Working knowledge of CPT, ICD-9, and ICD-10 required.
- Experience with computerized billing systems, computer peripherals, fax, personal computer, photocopier, and scanning required.
- Knowledge of compliance, cost reimbursement, and insurance negotiating procedures required.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, recognize, evaluate, solve problems, and correct errors required.
- Ability to deal courteously with patients and the public required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, prioritize projects, and work independently with attention to detail required.
- Working knowledge of Medicare, Medi-Cal/Caid, HMO, PPO, Commercial, and Private Pay preferred.
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) required if no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date (required within LA City only).
