Position Summary

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent plays a vital role in the management and upkeep of the golf course, working closely under the guidance of the Golf Superintendent. This position involves overseeing the maintenance of various golf course elements, equipment, and facilities. In the absence of the Golf Superintendent, the Assistant may assume their responsibilities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in strategizing and managing the upkeep of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers.
  • Support in managing personnel, ensuring employee safety, and maintaining discipline.
  • Organize and oversee staff assignments and equipment usage.
  • Help in the programming, repair, and maintenance of irrigation systems.
  • Implement a comprehensive turf health program, including aeration, topdressing, and the application of fertilizers and pesticides.
  • Operate various golf course machinery, including mowers, utility vehicles, and maintenance equipment.
  • Conduct daily course setup and mowing of the turf.
  • Maintain and repair golf course machinery.
  • Manage tree trimming and removal as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill essential duties effectively. The following qualifications are essential:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-year Degree or Certificate in Turf Management or a related field (e.g., agronomy, horticulture).
  • At least 1 year of experience as an Assistant Golf Superintendent or in a similar role is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Pesticide Application License

Communication Skills

  • Ability to address complex issues effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Capable of motivating and inspiring team members.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to the role.

Reasoning Skills

  • Ability to identify and analyze problems with limited information and recommend solutions.

  • Understanding of golf course management and maintenance practices.
