Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to enhance cost efficiency, product quality, and timely delivery within the supplier network.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage with suppliers to foster continuous advancements in technology, quality assurance, delivery timelines, and cost management to meet the stringent standards set by Ducommun and its clients.
- Oversee all supplier quality initiatives, including audit programs (in partnership with compliance), supplier risk evaluations, ongoing monitoring, and reporting.
- In collaboration with Ducommun's manufacturing and quality teams, spearhead root cause analysis and corrective actions for supplier quality issues using the Ducommun Corrective Action Board process.
- Manage Supplier Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) records and chargebacks in coordination with the supply chain management team.
- Lead supplier development and qualification efforts, focusing on manufacturing process control, engineering capabilities, and capacity validation.
- Facilitate the qualification and approval of supplier prototype samples and initial mass production (First Article) in accordance with Ducommun's quality codes.
- Assist suppliers with the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) as necessary.
- Participate in the development of new programs and production initiatives.
Review technical drawings, specifications, purchase orders, and other relevant documents to ensure compliance with inspection requirements.
Collaborate with suppliers on Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) requirements and capabilities.
Compliance and Auditing:
- Conduct supplier audits to verify adherence to ISO, AS, NADCAP, and other critical regulatory standards.
- Perform periodic quality system evaluations and cost structure assessments at selected suppliers.
- Work closely with Supply Chain, Product Integrity, and Manufacturing teams to develop essential processes that enhance supplier communication and understanding of Ducommun's business practices.
- Provide training to the supply base as needed to support improvement initiatives in statistical methods, assessment tools, defect mapping, lean manufacturing, and 5S methodology.
- Engage in monthly supplier metrics and scorecard reviews, driving supplier improvement actions.
- Support initiatives aimed at cost reduction and productivity enhancements, including in-sourcing projects.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

- Comprehensive knowledge of various quality management tools, including SPC and Six Sigma principles.
- Exceptional technical, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical capabilities.

- Proven hands-on approach with the ability to build and maintain effective business relationships in a team-oriented environment.
- Intermediate proficiency in computer applications such as email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Leadership skills with experience in people management, meeting facilitation, and customer support.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and attentive to accuracy.
Experience and Education:
To qualify for this position, candidates must possess the following:
- BA/BS/BE in Engineering, Materials and Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, or Business.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a mechanical manufacturing setting.
- 5+ years of direct experience in supplier quality, supply chain quality management, and/or manufacturing quality engineering, focusing on proactive supply and quality activities.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and quality systems, including supplier performance metrics.
- Demonstrated experience in improving supply base performance.
- Familiarity with SPC, TQM, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma methodologies, as well as recognized Quality Management System standards.
- Experience in developing and implementing lean manufacturing practices, including value stream mapping, 5S, and Kaizen activities.
Certifications:
- ASQ Certified Green Belt/Black Belt or equivalent certification is preferred.
- ASQ Certified Quality Auditor is preferred.
