Ophthalmic Care Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at VCU Health. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a critical role in providing primary ophthalmic care to patients and assisting physicians during minor surgical and laser procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare patients for ophthalmology examinations by dilating pupils, changing visual acuity, and communicating results to Attending Physicians.
- Perform complete ophthalmic history and preliminary exams, sub-specialty testing, and maintain equipment to ensure optimal patient care.
- Counsel patients on the use of drops, contact lenses, and other treatments, and answer questions about surgery and specialty imaging.
- Maintain a safe and secure work environment by following policies and procedures, and complying with legal regulations and VCUHS standards.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Ophthalmic Assistant Program or Certified Medical Assistant certification preferred.
- Minimum one year of work experience in optometric/ophthalmology performing initial examinations and diagnostic testing.
- Ability to work at alternative VCUHS Ophthalmology locations as needed.
