Job Summary

The Office of Information Technology at Southern Illinois University is seeking a highly skilled System Administrator to join our team. As a System Administrator, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Windows Server 2016 and higher operating systems, as well as other related technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides primarily Windows Server 2016 and higher operating system installation, configuration, patch management, security management, and user administration.
  • Implement and/or manage a variety of applications/systems, including Microsoft related technologies used to support private/public cloud activities.
  • Lead subject matter expert committees consisting of fellow members of Enterprise Systems, members of Information Technology, and/or Tech Partners from other areas of campus.
  • Isolate and resolve computer hardware, operating system, and applications problems to ensure that services are functionally stable and meeting performance objectives.
  • Act as a system administrator providing level 3 support to lower tiers for complex problems.
  • Provide outstanding customer service when providing support.
  • Communicate with vendors, clients, OIT, and campus peers through appropriate means such as meetings and informal chat.
  • Initiate and coordinate change management for application, OS-, and hardware-layer changes as well as communication during unplanned outages.
  • Participate in on-call duties for service disruptions acting as the senior level decision maker for problem resolution in some cases.
  • Perform advanced research to provide technical expertise to the Windows team lead.
  • Coordinate server backups, restores, and the plans to support a disaster recovery plan.
  • Define required tasks, timeline, and goals associated with the completion of projects.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced team members in accomplishing established goals and policy.
  • Document procedures and systems.
  • Pursue training to upgrade soft and technical skills.
  • Complete all forms necessary for evaluations, timesheets, and absence slips in a timely manner.
  • Manage student worker resources as needed.
  • Adhere to OIT guidelines and campus policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories:
    • A. College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline.
    • B. Work experience in IT-related functions, such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field.
  • Must possess one (1) year experience in each of the following:
    • Current Microsoft Server OR Linux OS (including installation/config)
    • PowerShell or Linux scripting equivalent
  • Must possess one (1) year experience in at least 1 of the following:
    • SCCM Server Administration
    • SQL Administration
    • Enterprise Level EMail and/or Collaboration Administration
    • Directory Service Administration (LDAP, Active Directory, etc.)
    • Virtual Cluster Administration
    • Public Cloud Server Administration
    • Linux Server Administration (including installation/config)
    • Storage Area Network Administration (SAN or vSAN)
    • Enterprise Level Back-Up, Restore, DR Management
    • Web Server Administration
    • Certificate Management
    • Server Hardware Management and Repair
    • Load Balancer Configuration and Administration
    • Authentication Configuration and Administration
    • Network Management
