Position Overview

This is a part-time evening role (up to 25 hours per week) with partial funding from grants.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES: The Evening CTE Advisor serves as a professional academic consultant, providing guidance to both current and prospective students enrolled in Career and Technical Education programs. This position is under the supervision of the Director of the Academic Advising Center.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assist CTE students at the college in evaluating their educational aspirations, formulating strategies to achieve their goals, and addressing any issues that may arise during their academic journey.
  • Support CTE students with the registration process, long-term academic planning, and connecting them with relevant program directors, Admissions, Student Services, and career opportunities.
  • Guide CTE students in selecting courses each term and provide comprehensive scheduling assistance to promote timely graduation.
  • Track the academic performance of CTE students to ensure successful program completion; actively engage with students to provide advice based on their academic status through various communication methods.
  • Maintain precise and confidential records of advising sessions in accordance with institutional policies.
  • Foster ongoing communication with the CTE student body through mail, phone, email, and in-person meetings.
  • Direct CTE students to academic support services and other resources available on campus.
  • Develop tailored advising plans for CTE students facing academic challenges.
  • Build collaborative relationships with faculty, department heads, program directors, the Registrar, Student Financial Services, and Admissions.
  • Prepare, maintain, and disseminate information related to career development, job placement, and college transfer options for CTE students.
  • Participate in student orientation and other recruitment initiatives on campus.
  • Adhere to all relevant system, state, and federal regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in counseling, education, psychology, or a related discipline. Each additional year of approved formal education may substitute for one year of required work experience.

Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of experience in teaching, student services, academic advising, or counseling, preferably in a higher education environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working with adult learners and/or mature students in Career and Technical Education programs. Proven ability to engage with students outside the classroom and interface with a diverse population. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Capacity to collaborate effectively within a team.

DESIRED WORK TRAITS: Extensive knowledge of academic and career advising methodologies. Ability to connect with diverse populations and establish effective rapport with students, faculty, and staff. Strong communication skills and proficiency in preparing written documentation. Capability to exercise professional judgment and maintain confidentiality. Willingness to work independently as well as part of a team. Must present a professional appearance appropriate to the responsibilities of the position.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: A valid driver's license and/or access to transportation for statewide travel.
