This is a part time evening position (up to 25 hours per week) and will be partially grant funded.

SCOPE OF WORK: The Evening CTE Advisor is a professional academic advising role and advises current and prospective students in the Career and Technical Education programs in academic, career, transfer, and transition options and opportunities. This position reports to the Director of the Academic Advising Center

at Nashua Community College.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Advises CTE students at NCC with reviewing their educational goals, developing plans to meet their objectives, and resolving concerns that arise during the course of their enrollment at the college.
  • Assists CTE students assisting with registration, long-term planning, making connections with other program directors, the Admissions Department, Student Services, transfer and career opportunities, and college life.
  • Assists CTE students with course selection for each term and provides long-term schedule planning to foster graduation within specified timeframes.
  • Monitors CTE student’s standards of academic progress to ensure successful program completion; monitors student academic progress and actively communicates and advises based on student status through multiple modalities.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential records of advising sessions in alignment with college policies.
  • Maintains open and frequent communication with CTE student population through mailings, telephone contacts, email, and meetings.
  • Informs and refers CTE students to academic support and other available resources on campus.
  • Develop advising action plans for CTE students with academic concerns.
  • Maintains collaborative relationships with faculty, department chairs and program directors, Registrar, Student Financial Services, and Admissions.
  • Prepares, maintains, and distributes information regarding career planning, job placement, and college transfer to CTE students.
  • Assists with student orientation and other campus recruitment events.
  • Complies with all system, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with major study in counseling, education, psychology or a related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Two (2) years’ experience in the field of teaching, student services, academic advising or counseling, preferably within a higher education setting.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working with adult returners and/or mature learners in Career and Technical Education programs. Experience working with students outside the classroom and ability to interface with a diverse population. Superior oral and written communication skills. Ability to collaborate and work in a team.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Considerable knowledge of academic and career advising principles and techniques. Ability to work with diverse populations and to maintain effective rapport

with students, faculty, and staff. Ability to communicate effectively and to prepare written reports. Ability to exercise professional judgment and to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Must be willing to maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Valid driver’s license and/or access to transportation for statewide travel.
