Job Summary

The Inpatient Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a vital role in providing direct and indirect patient care in a collaborative environment. Under the supervision of a physician or Registered Nurse (RN), the LPN delivers nursing care to assigned patients, accepting delegation to meet their needs. This role requires adherence to Monument Health's policies and procedures, as well as standards of the profession and the South Dakota Nurse Practice Act.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately complete and document focused assessments, apply clinical interventions, evaluate outcomes, and implement changes to the plan of care in collaboration with RN/provider.
  • Prepare for patient care by participating in pre-visit planning and preparation as applicable.
  • Administer and document medications in accordance with best practice and departmental policies.
  • Perform nursing procedures and treatments within Scope of Responsibilities according to nursing division and setting specific standards.
  • Implement physician orders, procedures, and nursing interventions, demonstrating skill and judgment necessary.
  • Assist RN with data collection pertinent to the assessment process, using appropriate age-specific criteria.
  • Contribute to the recurring nursing process by participating in care planning and the development of nursing interventions and contributing to the evaluation of responses to nursing interventions.
  • Provide/distribute preapproved/preprinted patient education materials, reinforcing health teaching and discharge instruction provided by RN/provider.
  • Support and contribute to departmental development, participating in meetings, committees, and continued education/training.
  • Ensure documentation in the patient record is accurate, clear, and concise within outlined Scope of Responsibilities.
Requirements
  • Education: Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing.
  • Certifications: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing; Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification - American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Preferred: Work Experience - 1+ years Healthcare Experience; 1+ years Licensed Practical Nurse Experience.
