POSITION SUMMARY:
The City of Lowell is seeking up to ten (10) dedicated individuals who are committed to promoting sustainable practices within the community or are associated with local business entities. The council is composed of professionals from diverse sectors including architects, legal experts, builders, educators, engineers, homeowners, manufacturers, and others, all possessing knowledge in climate science, conservation, and recycling.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in monthly meetings scheduled for every 4th Thursday
- Engage in Special Meetings as required
- Contribute to Volunteer Activities
The City of Lowell's Sustainability Council is pivotal in fostering environmentally responsible initiatives within the community by advocating for and endorsing 'green' design, construction, and development methodologies. Responsibilities encompass promoting sustainable policies, programs, and educational efforts aimed at enhancing sustainability and minimizing environmental impacts in construction and development endeavors. This includes focusing on critical areas such as carbon footprint reduction, waste management, recycling, energy efficiency, and more.
Additional responsibilities entail:
- Investigating effective sustainability frameworks from other municipalities
- Presenting initiatives and policies to local governing bodies
- Collaborating with educational institutions to develop outreach initiatives
- Exploring funding avenues for green building and energy conservation projects
