About the Role:

The Veterinary Technician I will play a crucial role in assisting veterinary staff in the documentation and triage of all laboratory animal health cases in a colony of nonhuman primates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist veterinary staff in the documentation and triage of all animal health cases noted by technical and or senior veterinary staff
  • Perform routine veterinary technical and husbandry skills, including administration of various therapeutic measures, bandage/wrapping techniques, routine parasitological testing, venipuncture techniques, TB testing, dental scaling, and proficient animal restraint techniques
  • Monitor critical care animals, generate animal treatment records, and perform follow-up observations or new findings as required
  • Maintain accurate medical records for each animal in accordance with regulatory requirements and assist in maintaining accurate record keeping procedures for the veterinary department
  • Assist in providing leadership, animal health training, and guidance to other laboratory personnel and maintain and follow complex procedures to ensure appropriate animal health and treatment
  • Assist in keeping inventory and stocking the vet rooms, organizing and maintaining the vet exam rooms, and performing routine technical and husbandry functions on studies

Requirements:

  • Graduate of a collegiate veterinary technology program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Training Activities, or equivalent program in veterinary technology preferred
  • Experience working with animals in a laboratory or clinical setting preferred
  • CVT/RVT certification preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
