Job Summary

The Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer (VP/CNO) at The Johns Hopkins Hospital is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care through the coordination of nursing and patient care services. This includes maintaining quality assurance standards, allocating and managing nursing resources, and coordinating Regulatory Affairs and Patient and Guest Services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Planning: Develops strategic plans to achieve hospital goals and objectives, including gathering and analyzing data to measure key changes in the clinical climate and market.
  • Departmental and Organizational Support: Establishes the structure and processes for executing plans, assembles resources, and develops a governance structure with operating procedures and staffing.
  • Controlling: Measures, interprets, and evaluates actions and results for conformance to plans and policies, ensuring standards of care and practice guide patient care services.
  • Climate Setting and Leadership: Ensures timely and effective communication, co-leads/supervises Advanced Practice Providers, and establishes a positive image of the hospital.
  • Operational/Technical: Evaluates, develops, and maintains an institutional program for continuous quality service improvement, reviews and approves policies and procedures, and provides coordination of plans that cross departmental boundaries.
Requirements
  • Earned doctorate in nursing or related field.
  • Master's degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Maryland or able to achieve.
  • Fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible nursing administration experience in an Academic Medical Center.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • In-depth knowledge of nursing theory and practice, organizational management, finance, and administration.
  • Knowledge of the current healthcare environment.
  • Expert verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills necessary to provide effective leadership and collaboration within a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Negotiation skills necessary to resolve issues in a manner consistent with organizational objectives.
  • Ability to analyze data and synthesize information for problem solving and decision making.
