Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Certified Nursing Assistant to join our team at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System. As a Certified Nursing Assistant, you will provide restorative nursing care to residents under the direction of the Nursing and/or Rehab staff to maximize and maintain their physical functioning and emotional wellness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct hands-on treatment under the guidance and supervision of licensed nursing and/or rehab staff and in compliance with hospital policy of unlicensed staff.
  • Maintain a safe and resident-friendly environment of care.
  • Resident equipment and materials are kept in good repair.
  • Maintain residents' personal items and environment to optimize care and safety.
  • Reports to licensed nurse and/or rehab therapists any changes in condition or concerns regarding residents and seeks assistance as needed.
  • Participate in department and team projects as directed.
  • Perform duties within scope of certified nursing assistant role.
Requirements
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant certification.
  • Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: Current Certified Nursing Assistant certification.
  • Depending on setting, current CPR or BLS certification within 60 days of employment.
  • Previous experience providing activities of daily living, monitoring vital signs, and caring for the physical and emotional needs of patients.
  • Previous experience using a personnel computer, keyboard, and mouse.
  • Experience preferred: Previous work experience in a long-term care setting.
  • Education/training required: Satisfactory completion of a nurse aide education program approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing.
  • Education/training preferred: High School Diploma or the equivalent.
Work Environment

This position requires the ability to work all three shifts, weekends, and holidays. Individual shift rotations and schedules will be determined by supervisor.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to lift 20-50 pounds, prolonged standing, frequent bending, walking (distance), reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive), strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, and logical thinking.
