As a Processing Archivist for Latin American Manuscripts Collections, you will play a critical role in creating and enhancing metadata for collections containing the personal papers of Latin American literary, cultural, and political figures.
Key Responsibilities- Accession, appraise, and process collections in all formats, ensuring accurate and consistent metadata.
- Manage and enhance data for collections, adhering to current standards, user needs, and reparative frameworks.
- Assist with public services, providing expert guidance to patrons and staff.
- Propose and contribute to collaborative initiatives at the team level, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Collaborate with departmental stakeholders on collections management and control, ensuring seamless workflows and effective communication.
- Manage audiovisual and large-scale digitization and processing projects, leveraging expertise to drive project success.
- Supervise student workers on archival description projects, mentoring and guiding them to achieve excellence.
- Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program with archival coursework or an advanced degree in an allied discipline combined with relevant experience.
- Fluent reading knowledge of Spanish.
- Hands-on experience arranging and describing archival collections with varying size and scope.
- Knowledge of and experience with relevant descriptive standards for archival collections (DACS, EAD).
- Familiarity with current developments in processing procedures.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and a commitment to professional engagement and continuous learning.
- Comfort with and ability to learn new technologies.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and serving the needs of a diverse population.
