ABOUT ASSET PROTECTION

The Asset Protection (AP) teams are dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of our guests, team members, and brand, especially during crisis situations. They safeguard profitable sales by minimizing loss risks, preventing, investigating, and resolving theft and fraud to guarantee product availability for our guests.

At Target, we believe in providing our team members with meaningful experiences that help them develop skills for their careers. The role of an Asset Protection Team Leader offers the opportunity to gain skills and experience in:

  • Fostering a safe and secure culture, including crisis management, a robust safety environment, and crowd control planning, while supporting both guests and team members.
  • Executing daily and weekly AP workload priorities to align with business objectives and achieve goals.
  • Addressing external theft incidents and implementing measures to prevent future occurrences.
  • With guidance from leadership, applying strategic solutions to external theft and fraud, and apprehending individuals attempting to cause loss, in line with company policy.
  • Collaborating with and educating store business leaders on operational shortage priorities.
  • Leading a team of hourly employees, including skills in recruitment, development, evaluation, and retention of talent.
As an Asset Protection Team Leader, your daily responsibilities may include:
  • Enhancing overall store sales and profitability by ensuring product availability for guests. Engaging and welcoming guests at the store entrance and throughout the sales floor.
  • Validating and influencing physical security and safety protocols; participating in store emergency responses and creating plans for in-store events.
  • Assisting your leader in training teams on emergency preparedness and physical security protocols.
  • Coaching and developing team members to enhance their skills and expertise, as directed by your leader.
  • Anticipating staffing needs and collaborating with your leader to effectively plan for a culture of accountability through clear expectations and performance management.
  • Identifying theft and shortage trends within the store.
  • Recognizing shortage risks in key areas and working with your leader to devise strategies that reduce loss and drive profitable sales.
  • Working a schedule that meets guest and business needs based on safety and theft patterns (including early morning/overnight shifts, evenings, and weekends).
  • Creating schedules and adjusting them based on safety and theft trends.
  • Managing the prevention, identification, and resolution of external theft incidents.
  • Supporting internal investigations led by an AP leader in your market and/or your leader.
  • Training team members on merchandise protection and audit execution.
  • Implementing and following up on operational changes as directed by your leader.
  • Assisting your leader in educating and supporting store teams on operational shortage priorities.
  • Communicating AP priorities to the team, peers, and leadership.
  • Building a relationship of trust and accountability with your leader and Store Director.
  • Modeling a safety culture in the store by recognizing safe behaviors and addressing safety hazards; investigating injuries to determine root causes and resolving them through appropriate action plans.
  • Executing strategies led by your leader to achieve business results while prioritizing the guest experience.
  • Evaluating and recommending candidates for open positions and developing a guest-focused team.
  • Leading team onboarding and learning, closing knowledge and skill gaps through training and experience.
  • Holding team members accountable to expectations set by your leader.
  • Maintaining all required training.
  • Serving as the first responder for in-store incidents (e.g., security, weather, etc.).
  • Leading and demonstrating a culture of executing best practices as outlined in team onboarding and learning; helping to close skill gaps through development, coaching, and team interactions.
  • Providing service and a shopping experience that meets guest needs.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias.
  • Supporting your leader in fostering a safety advocacy culture by understanding how safety impacts your role and that of your team, identifying and correcting hazards, and holding the team accountable for safe practices.
  • Performing other duties as needed based on business requirements.

  • Capable of managing your workload and prioritizing tasks independently.
