ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER

POSITION SUMMARY

The Environmental Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring adherence to all relevant local, federal, and international environmental standards. This position involves the implementation of effective compliance and management strategies, serving as a liaison with regulatory bodies. The Environmental Engineer will oversee the Environmental Management System (EMS), ensuring it is maintained in accordance with ISO 14001:2015 standards. Additionally, this role includes managing the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) inventory system, which encompasses the approval, updating, and coordination of SDS authoring with external consultants. The Environmental Engineer will represent the organization in interactions with regulatory agencies, clients, auditors, and other stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Regulatory Responsibilities:

  • Lead the efforts in regulatory compliance, requiring in-depth knowledge of ISO 14001 and chemical regulations at the local, state, and federal levels (including OSHA, EPA, FIFRA, TSCA, RCRA, DOT, and fire marshal) as well as international regulations (REACH, ROHS, and ECHA).
  • Evaluate the regulatory compliance of current and developing products to support business growth, ensuring familiarity with industry practices that align with Fujimi's objectives.
  • Stay updated on existing and emerging domestic and international laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines related to chemical research, manufacturing, sales, and transportation.
  • Interpret regulatory changes, communicate updates through corporate policies, and develop systems to document changes affecting the business. Update internal documentation and provide training to Fujimi employees on new requirements.
  • Support compliance within the Quality System for the Regulated Products group, including drafting and revising operating standards, reviewing design documents, and implementing compliance mechanisms for new regulations.
  • Collaborate with Sales to address customer requirements for chemical content certifications and provide support for specific customer needs.
  • Work with the Quality Team on Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs), complaint investigations, and both internal and external audits.

Chemical Inventory Management Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a precise and compliant chemical inventory system, ensuring that all departments meet regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with Information Systems to ensure the functionality of the Chemical Inventory Management System (CIMS) and support necessary upgrades and new features. Maintain working instructions in Master Control for CIMS.
  • Evaluate and approve new research and development chemicals based on regulatory registrations and restrictions, working with suppliers to ensure SDS compliance with regulations.
  • Analyze existing standard operating procedures and record-keeping systems, creating new procedures as necessary to enhance regulatory review processes.
  • Oversee documentation, training, and maintenance related to waste management procedures.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering or a related field with 3-5 years of experience. Familiarity with ISO 14001 Standards and auditing experience, along with knowledge of international regulations (REACH, RoHS, TSCA).

Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Certifications & Licenses: HAZWOPER certification is advantageous.

  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and respirators.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Primarily an office setting with regular walkthroughs and inspections of laboratories, manufacturing, and warehouse areas. Exposure to warehouse environments and hazardous materials.
