Job Title: Materials and Processes Engineer

At Blue Origin, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development. We're seeking a highly skilled Materials and Processes Engineer to join our team and contribute to the success of our lunar permanence business unit.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical expertise in materials selection, process development, and qualification for space vehicles.
  • Support design, analysis, and testing of materials and processes for additive manufacturing, forging, casting, forming, extrusion, plating, coating, welding, brazing, anodization, and passivation.
  • Review production drawings for large complex assemblies and document reviews to established requirements.
  • Lead and coordinate internal and external efforts for additive manufacturing, including material specifications, process specifications, supplier qualifications, part qualifications, mechanical testing, and customer-facing updates.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to ensure part designs are compatible with additive manufacturing processes.
  • Work with cross-functional teams within the lunar organization and other business units.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Aerospace, Material Science, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated AM M&P Engineering experience on a production flight or space program.
  • Experience with AM aluminum and/or titanium for aerospace applications.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing part qualification test plans for AM components.
  • Familiarity with standard methods for testing mechanical properties of aerospace-grade materials, particularly AM materials.
  • Knowledge of industry standards for material data analysis (e.g. MMPDS, MAPTIS, CMH-17).
  • Experience organizing and managing materials and process-related data in a company-accessible database.
