Position Summary
Tacoma Community College is seeking dedicated educators to join our paralegal faculty as part-time instructors. This role involves the design, preparation, and delivery of courses within our associate degree and certificate programs.
Teaching assignments will primarily occur during daytime hours, with potential evening classes as needed. Courses may be delivered in various formats, including in-person, hybrid, or fully online.
Instructors will collaborate closely with the Paralegal Program Chair and report to the Dean of Business, Paralegal, and Technology Pathways.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and teach a range of paralegal education courses, ensuring alignment with program objectives.
- Design, implement, and assess curricula that meet the standards set by the American Bar Association (ABA) for paralegal education.
- Foster a supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement and success.
- Establish clear grading criteria and communicate expectations effectively to students.
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to program development initiatives.
- Utilize technology to enhance the learning experience across different instructional modalities.
- Engage with the local legal community to maintain strong professional relationships.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Three years of professional experience in a legal environment, particularly in collaboration with paralegal teams.
- Ability to meet vocational certification requirements as mandated by the State of Washington.
- Experience with online learning management systems.
- Availability to teach during designated daytime hours.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctor of Jurisprudence from an accredited institution.
- Current legal practice license in Washington State.
- Experience in higher education teaching.
- Proficiency in online course design and instruction.
- Familiarity with current trends in paralegal education.
