Thorlabs is a leading manufacturer of high-precision optical components and instruments. We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Shop Inspector to join our team in Newton, NJ.

About the Role

This position is responsible for ensuring the quality and accuracy of high-precision mechanical components produced in our Mechanics group. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical aptitude, metrology tools, and computer skills. As a Mechanical Shop Inspector, you will be working closely with our manufacturing team to identify and resolve quality issues, improve processes, and maintain compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspecting Components: Utilize various inspection equipment and methods to measure highly toleranced components and ensure compliance with blueprint specifications and manufacturing standards.
  • Documenting Results: Perform accurate, efficient, and thorough dimensional and visual inspections, documenting results and communicating shop performance to management.
  • Collaborating with Team Members: Work closely with machinists, operators, and other team members to identify and resolve quality issues, recommend improvements, and provide constructive feedback.
Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum 1-2 years of related experience; machine shop experience a plus.
  • Education: High School or Trade School diploma or equivalent.
  • Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Mechanical aptitude, ability to interpret mechanical blueprint specifications, knowledge of metrology tools and equipment, proficiency with MS Office and ERP software.
Salary Information

The estimated salary for this role is between $65,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. Thorlabs offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, company-paid life insurance, a generous PTO package, a 401(k) plan, and tuition reimbursement.
