Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Public Safety Officer to join our team at Advocate Health. As a Public Safety Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our patients, visitors, and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide security services with professionalism, fairness, and compassion in challenging circumstances, adhering to policies, procedures, and training.
  • Conduct routine patrols to ensure safety and security, including inspections, audits, and contraband searches.
  • Respond to emergency situations, such as combative patients or visitors, and team member incidents, using de-escalation techniques.
  • Investigate incidents, complete reports, and address complaints in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Liaise with law enforcement and first responder agencies, coordinating prisoner patient guard activities and ensuring policy compliance.
  • Participate in training and maintain current department standards in radio communications, verbal de-escalation, stabilization, CPR, and clinical restraints.

Requirements:

  • Security Officer healthcare certification (CHSO) issued by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 2 years.
  • Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license issued by the Department of Justice.
  • A valid driver's license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles.
  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in a security, related public safety, or customer service area.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise mature judgment and sound reasoning in dealings with employees, visitors, and patients.
  • Ability to use a computer to document work, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and database entry.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including off-shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Must sit, stand, walk, and drive throughout the workday, and lift up to 35 lbs occasionally.
  • May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, and radiation hazards.
