Welder Assistant

The Welder Helper will be responsible for maintaining a well-organized work environment and ensuring the adequate maintenance of equipment and materials. This includes guaranteeing welders have the necessary tools and materials, such as rods and grinding discs, and operating welding machines, grinders, hammers, beveling machines, torches, and magnetic drills. Familiarity with various metals, including galvanized, carbon, and stainless steel, is essential.

To ensure success, the candidate must be detail-oriented, patient, and organized, with the ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment.

• Attend on-site safety meetings.
• Maintain cleanliness of work areas.
• Assist welders in setting up rigs and moving them between work areas.
• Ensure welders have required materials and tools available.
• Maintain stock levels of materials and supplies.
• Load and unload trucks.
• Follow welders' instructions to adjust welding machine temperatures.
• Employ buffers and grinders to clean welds.
• Maintain knowledge of various types of metal.
• Operate various tools and types of equipment.
• Identify safety risks and hazards, and comply with relevant safety procedures and regulations.
• Read and interpret production schedules and blueprints to determine project specifications.
• Monitor fitting and welding processes to prevent workpiece shrinkage or expansion due to overheating.
• Connect cutting torches to gas cylinders or electric power sources.
• Perform other tasks assigned by welders as needed.
• Clean workpieces using chemical solutions to remove impurities.
• Be willing and able to travel to various work sites as needed.

• Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding, including designs, uses, maintenance, and repair.
• Basic understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools necessary for precise production of technical plans, drawings, models, and blueprints.
• Excellent ability to read and listen to assignments given in various forms.
• Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments.

• 6+ months of work experience in a similar role.
• Proficient knowledge of all aspects of welding.
• Basic English reading and writing skills.

• Ability to weld components in various positions.
• Ability to work in a standing position for extended hours.
• Comfortable working on elevated surfaces.
• Resilient to working in adverse climatic conditions.
• Manual dexterity and stability required for precision work.
• Ability to see details at close range.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
• Ability to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
