About the Position
The Student Homelessness Support Driver is responsible for safely transporting students eligible for McKinney-Vento services to and from school, as well as other educational activities. This role requires punctuality, attention to detail, and effective communication with students, families, and district personnel. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating a customer-focused approach to their work. In addition to driving duties, the driver will perform various administrative tasks, including data entry, filing, and record-keeping.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Safely operate a district-approved vehicle to transport students to and from school, designated bus stops, or other approved locations
• Maintain punctuality and ensure timely pick-up and drop-off of students
• Assist students in boarding and exiting the vehicle safely
• Report any transportation issues or delays to the supervisor promptly
• Adhere to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and district policies regarding student transportation
• Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and cleanliness
• Maintain accurate records of routes, mileage, and schedules
• Follow appropriate procedures for vehicle maintenance requests and reports
• Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for students while in transit
• Monitor student behavior to ensure a safe and distraction-free trip; address issues following district policies
• Communicate effectively with school staff, parents, and other stakeholders as needed to coordinate transportation services
• Attend required training sessions and meetings
• Answer phones, take messages, and respond to inquiries from staff, parents, and the public in a professional and courteous manner
• Perform general office duties, including data entry, filing, copying, and distributing mail
• Prepare, maintain, and update transportation schedules, routes, and rosters
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor to meet the needs of the district

Requirements and Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience driving and working with children preferred
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
• Ability to obtain and maintain district approval to drive a school vehicle
• Ability to operate a vehicle safely and efficiently
• Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with students, families, and district personnel
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
• Problem-solving skills to address unexpected transportation issues
• Estimated Salary: $40,000 - $55,000 per year depending on experience
