Job Summary

Kirkwood Community College is seeking a part-time ESL Instructor to teach English as a Second Language courses to students enrolled in our secondary programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching adult ESL/ABE learners or working with adult immigrants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach ESL courses to students in a variety of formats, including individualized instruction, computer-assisted instruction, and large group courses.
  • Collaborate with fellow learning center instructors on curriculum development, student intake/advising, and staff development activities.
  • Conduct CASAS assessments for eligible students.
  • Provide contextualized, scaffolded, interactive instruction that includes cooperative learning tasks and implements ESL college and career readiness and CASAS ESL standards.
  • Track attendance daily and submit reports.
  • Respond to communications and requests from program directors and coordinators in a timely manner.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and ongoing professional development opportunities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Prior experience teaching adult ESL/ABE learners or working with adult immigrants.
  • Prior experience teaching ESL or foreign language at any age.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in TESOL, Education, Foreign Language Teaching, or related field.
  • TESOL training/certification preferred.
