The Community Engagement Specialist role offers the opportunity to provide essential services to individuals within the community. This position is focused on facilitating and supporting community members as part of a dedicated outreach team. Collaborate with DMH Site Directors, local service providers, and community stakeholders to ensure that outreach efforts and group meeting locations are easily accessible based on community needs. It is crucial to select venues that are conveniently located near public transportation. Maintain an updated directory of resources available for each community within the RLC area, and encourage peers to participate in local social activities and support systems. Assist in the management of peer-operated Recovery Learning Community (RLC) settings, where individuals with lived experiences of mental health challenges can engage as participants and work together on their recovery objectives alongside their peers.

Key Responsibilities

Organize and lead community groups and activities. Provide education on available community resources and services. Promote independence, hope, inspiration, and a sense of belonging. Offer advocacy, support, education, information, and training in recovery methodologies. Assist individuals in identifying and evaluating the resources, services, and support they seek within their communities. Encourage the development of self-advocacy skills and other strategies that foster recovery by teaching and demonstrating these skills. Create a welcoming and supportive environment within the Recovery Learning Center, ensuring that participants, their families, friends, and other significant individuals feel welcomed, respected, and valued.

Qualifications

A High School diploma or GED Certificate is required. CPR and First Aid certification may be required within two weeks of hire. CPSS certification. Additional training as assigned.
