Job Summary

The City of Prescott seeks a highly skilled and experienced Chief Building Official/Building Division Manager to lead the Community Development Department's Building Division. This key position is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating activities, as well as supervising personnel to ensure the effective enforcement of building codes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise and consult with the Community Development Director on compliance and enforcement of public and private development, building, and zoning policies.
  • Coordinate division activities with citizens, other departments, outside agencies, and the development community.
  • Oversee and participate in building safety plan review and inspection.
  • Supervise and train staff, and oversee work schedules.
  • Interpret and enforce building codes and ordinances.
  • Establish general policies and prepare and administer the Division Budget.
  • Manage Division operations and projects, and compile statistical information.

Requirements:

  • Preferred Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil or Structural Engineering, or Architecture.
  • Seven years of experience in the construction field as a foreman, building inspector, or trade involving building code enforcement, with five years of supervisory experience.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license.
  • Possess and maintain ICC Certification for Commercial and Residential Building Plans Examination and Inspections.
  • Prefer ICC Certified Building Official designation.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed both in a City office and out in the field.
  • Safely operates a City vehicle and other required equipment.
  • Safely exerts light physical effort, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling objects and materials of light weight.
