Position Overview
Northwestern Medicine presents an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Neurosurgery department. This role involves approximately 50% inpatient and 50% outpatient responsibilities. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will conduct independent clinic visits, manage new consultations, handle patient communications, perform inpatient rounds, and engage in procedures and first assist opportunities, along with other assigned duties.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, daytime hours; no night, weekend, or holiday shifts required, though weekend coverage may be available based on departmental needs.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrate clinical proficiency and advanced knowledge through patient care activities, including the diagnosis and management of diverse health issues.
2. Assume responsibility for health outcomes within a designated patient population.
3. Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals in clinical areas of expertise.
4. Develop educational resources for patients, families, and staff in specialized fields.
5. Mentor graduate students in advanced practice and patient care methodologies.
6. Actively engage in quality improvement initiatives and/or research relevant to the specialty area.
Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree from an accredited nursing program or a master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Acute Care certification required for APRNs unless FNPs possess extensive inpatient experience as an APRN.
- Current Registered Nurse license in Illinois and current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license in Illinois, with certification from a national certifying body approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board.
- Privileged and credentialed through the NMH Medical Staff Office.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- Two years of clinical experience in the relevant specialty area.
