Job Overview

Position: Licensed Speech Pathologist

Reports To: Clinical Director or Rehabilitation Director

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Licensed Speech Pathologist is accountable for the execution of care standards for speech-language pathology services and ensuring compliance with all terms outlined in the Service Agreement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Conducts thorough assessments, evaluates the home setting (when applicable), and determines necessary equipment for speech and language functionality.

2. Identifies specific speech impairments and formulates a care plan aimed at enhancing the patient's communication abilities.

3. Implements a speech therapy regimen utilizing specialized techniques and/or equipment.

4. Suggests communication aids/devices as needed.

5. Collaborates with the referring physician (or another authorized licensed independent practitioner) and other personnel to ensure a coordinated and holistic approach to patient care.

6. Participates in case discussions, training sessions, and other meetings as required to maintain comprehensive care.

7. Prepares and submits documentation in accordance with organizational policies.

8. Maintains professional competency in speech-language pathology practices and theories.

9. Recognizes the needs of patients and their families/caregivers for additional services and makes referrals as necessary.

10. Educates patients, families/caregivers, and other healthcare staff about the treatment plan as appropriate.

11. May oversee home health aides in tasks directly related to the speech-language therapy care plan.

12. Performs additional duties as required to support the delivery of speech-language pathology services.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Holds a master's or doctoral degree in speech-language pathology (SLP) and meets one of the following criteria:

A. Is licensed as a speech-language pathologist in the state of practice; or

B. If the state does not license speech-language pathologists:

  1. Has successfully completed 350 hours of supervised clinical practicum (or is in the process of completing such experience);
  2. Has provided no less than 9 months of supervised full-time SLP services post-degree; and
  3. Has successfully passed an approved national examination in SLP.

2. A minimum of one year of clinical experience in Speech-Language Pathology.

3. Exhibits strong verbal and written communication skills along with organizational abilities.

4. Maintains current CPR certification.

5. Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to an insured vehicle.

REQUIRED SKILLS

1. Ability to lift, push, or pull 15-20 pounds regularly. Capable of handling heavier weights as needed.

2. Engages in various physical activities such as sitting, standing, stooping, squatting, walking, and moving intermittently throughout work hours.

3. Drives to and from patients' residences as well as the agency office.

4. Ability to manage the mental and emotional demands of the role.
