Interventional Radiology Technologist

We are seeking a skilled Interventional Radiology Technologist to join our team at the University of Maryland Medical System. As an Interventional Radiology Technologist, you will be responsible for performing high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care.
About the Role
This is a PRN float position between our downtown and midtown campuses, requiring flexibility and a commitment to providing excellent patient care in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform Diagnostic Procedures: Conduct a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures, ensuring the quality and continuity of patient care.
- Patient Safety and Preparation: Verify patient identity, review requisitions for consistency with clinical diagnoses, and record pertinent data on requisitions.
- Assess Patient Condition: Assess patient condition, ensure patient safety through proper radiation safety practices, and properly position devices.
- Critical Care and Prioritization: Demonstrate ability to organize patient care, set priorities, and provide critical care first.
- IV Access and Contrast Administration: Insert, maintain, and discontinue Heparin lock or IV access devices as required by patient condition, administer IV contrast media, and monitor patient vital signs.
- Equipment Maintenance: Select, set up, and maintain sterile trays and accessories according to scheduled procedures.
- Documentation and Billing: Process patients through the Meditech system, ensuring proper documentation and billing information, and identify and input all appropriate charges for procedures and supplies.
- Expense Control and Efficiency: Recommend, participate in, and assist with expense control initiatives.
- Sterile Procedure Preparation: Prepare patients for sterile procedures according to department and hospital protocol.
- Radiograph Identification: Properly mark and identify all radiographs and digital images.
- Hazard Reporting: Report safety hazards and/or radiographic or interventional equipment malfunctions that could harm patients, visitors, or hospital employees to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work in conjunction with IR nurses and physicians to monitor patient condition throughout procedures, recognize basic cardiac rhythms, and use the Mac Lab when necessary.
- Environment Maintenance: Maintain proper stocking and cleanliness of interventional rooms.
- Professional Development: Establish and maintain good rapport and working relationships with departmental staff, hospital staff, patients, families, physicians, and hospital visitors.
Requirements
- Education: Graduate of an AMA-approved Radiologic Technology School.
- Licensure and Certification: Registered by the ARRT and licensed by the state of Maryland, successful completion of basic cardiac rhythm recognition course.
- Experience: Minimum one year radiology and six months interventional experience (willing to train the right individual) following graduation from an approved school.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $58,095-$71,005, with eligibility for shift differential and other benefits outlined in the 2024-2025 UMMS Benefits Guide.
