Role Overview

This position offers an exciting opportunity for a proactive individual looking to advance their career in nonprofit accounting within a team undergoing significant financial transformation. A typical day may involve reviewing grant agreements, reconciling pledge payments with the Development team, generating reports in preparation for our transition to the new CRM system, Tessitura, and consolidating unused general ledger accounts.

We are seeking a full-time Senior Accountant who is a self-motivated individual and will work onsite three days a week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure adherence to relevant GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate accurate and timely month-end closing for accounts receivable.
  • Prepare journal entries, workpapers, accounting memos, and account reconciliations.
  • Utilize information systems to enhance current reporting, providing organizational leaders with access to real-time or near real-time information for improved decision-making.
  • Establish and uphold internal controls and safeguards for financial reporting, revenue receipt, and grant or program budgets.
  • Ensure monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, promptly researching and resolving reconciling items.
  • Assist with annual financial audits.
  • Oversee the preparation, balancing, and reconciliation of various accounting records; prepare or direct the preparation of records and reports for submission to regulatory and government agencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance from an accredited four-year institution required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a nonprofit organization required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in good standing preferred.
  • Experience managing government and private foundation grants.
  • Proven track record as the key individual responsible for accounts receivable.
  • Experience overseeing multiple grants concerning compliance, tracking, invoicing, collecting, and reporting.
  • Technologically proficient; advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software, particularly Abila MIP and Microsoft Office applications, including advanced Excel skills. Tessitura experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and project/time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; adept at effectively conveying key data, including presentations to senior management, board members, and external partners.
  • Demonstrate respect for diverse perspectives and experience in promoting inclusivity within teams/organizations.
  • Exhibit personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and unwavering commitment to the mission; a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who collaborates closely with the Director of Accounting and CFO.
