Job Summary: We are seeking a Part-Time Truck Helper to assist in the collection and transportation of donations for The Salvation Army USA Southern Territory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in picking up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse.
  • Navigate for the Truck Driver and ensure the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route.
  • Maintain the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standards.
  • Ride in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route to pick up donated items and inspect them briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures.
  • Explain policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.
  • Lift, carry, and/or haul donations into the truck and pack items in a manner that maximizes use of space, protects items from damage, and ensures safety.
  • Maintain good relationships with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.
  • Unload donations from the truck upon arrival at the warehouse and distribute items to appropriate locations.
  • Load the truck with items to be taken to the dump and deliver appliances and furniture purchased by customers.
  • Perform routine maintenance of the truck and ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.

Requirements:

  • No formal education required.
  • Six months experience lifting and hauling heavy items such as appliances and furniture, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
