Key Responsibilities
  • Screen patient charts to ensure medication orders are aligned with the chart note as well as lab work, vitals, allergies, etc.
  • Process new medication orders in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Fill prescription orders when needed, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Check filled prescription orders for accuracy and completeness.
  • Educate patients on medication therapy and provide clear instructions.
  • Provide patient education on medication use, side effects, and potential interactions.
  • Work collaboratively with the pharmacy team and providers to ensure timely and accurate pharmaceutical services.
  • Answer provider questions regarding drug therapy and provide guidance when necessary.
  • Recognize life-threatening emergencies and initiate resuscitation measures as appropriate.
  • Recognize adverse reactions to medications, treatments, and procedures, and initiate interventions as needed.
  • Answer and screen telephone calls, take refill requests, and input outside prescriptions into the system.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including the Functional Improvement, Pain Reduction Committee and the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Perform controlled substance audits as directed.
  • Assist with inventory management and help put away orders as needed.
  • Conduct pill counts and communicate with patients regarding their medication use.
