Job Overview
Compensation: The starting hourly wage for this role is $13.00/hr, accompanied by a comprehensive benefits package.
The Associate Custodian plays a vital role in ensuring a clean, safe, and healthy environment within university facilities. Responsibilities include providing custodial services across various areas such as classrooms, offices, research laboratories, and communal spaces. The position requires adherence to a non-traditional work schedule, as outlined in the posted shift schedule. Duties also include managing building access by locking and unlocking designated areas as per departmental guidelines and fostering positive relationships with building occupants while addressing their requests.
Essential Qualifications:
- Consistent work or educational history with a strong attendance record.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English to facilitate effective communication.
- Basic mathematical skills and organizational abilities.
- Capability to learn and operate both powered and non-powered floor care equipment.
- Enrollment in the Building Services Custodial Development Program within 90 days of hire.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Understanding and adherence to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment as required.
- Physical capability to lift and carry weights ranging from 25 to 50 lbs frequently, and up to 60 lbs occasionally.
- Willingness to work outdoors 10% of the time in varying temperatures.
- Willingness to learn custodial practices for various university areas including restrooms, classrooms, offices, research labs, and public spaces.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Six months of experience in custodial, service, housekeeping, or janitorial roles.
- Two years of general work experience.
Additional Information:
This position may be filled at either the Associate Custodian or Custodian level, depending on the skills, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate.
