Job Summary

We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to conduct routine procedures and tests using radiology equipment to acquire patient diagnostic data. The successful candidate will evaluate the appropriateness of examinations and assess the quality of radiographic images.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts routine procedures and tests using radiology equipment to acquire patient diagnostic data.
  • Evaluates the appropriateness of examinations and assesses the quality of radiographic images.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of all aspects of General Diagnostic Radiology and adheres to Departmental Protocols and Policy and Procedures of UNC Healthcare System.
  • Ensures that patient demographic, emulsion markers, and examination requested are correct, critiques, orients, and saves all pertinent images.
  • Transmits QA-ed images to PACS and ensures that all images reach PACS.
  • Documents completion and/or cancellation of all procedures in RIS and documents comments when appropriate.
  • Maintains image management equipment and reports any equipment problem to appropriate resources.
  • Utilizes PACS and HIS system for obtaining additional study data.
  • Performs work in a timely manner and performs quality radiographic images on a consistent and on-going basis.
  • Reviews radiographic orders and images and correlates patient demographic information, ensuring accuracy of information.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment and documents incidents and advises area supervisor of improvement opportunities for the work unit.
  • Uses RIS, CIS, PACS, and SMS effectively and appropriately to access information and document status of procedures.
  • Verifies patient identity, obtains patient history relevant to examination order, and verifies pregnancy status before administering ionizing radiation.
  • Assesses patients' physical condition and develops an action plan for performing examination.
  • Assists patients that require extra attention and reacts to emergency situations.
  • Ensures patient safety and performs rooming and/or intake process, collecting and data, including vital signs, height, weight, and data related to patient's reason for visit.
  • Collects patient and family data, including medical and social history.
  • Collects specimens and performs phlebotomy.
  • Reviews the patient record to determine whether patient requires any routine health screenings.
  • Ensures exam/procedure room contains appropriate supplies, equipment, forms, and educational materials are available and ready for use during visit/procedure.
  • Provides patient with after-visit, follow-up, self-care, or procedural instructions and/or educational materials as directed.
  • Prepares, cleans, stocks, and maintains exam and treatment rooms.
  • Assists with patient registration, check in/check out, appointment scheduling, and scheduling of tests and treatments, and referrals.
  • Answers clinic telephone and assists in-basket under the direction of a provider or nurse.
Requirements
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Knowledgeable of radiation protection and safety in addition to general and electrical safety, infection control, TB, and standard precautions.
