Cost Accountant Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cost Accountant to contribute to the financial success of our organization. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in performing professional cost accounting functions, improving and optimizing our cost accounting methods, principles, and practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Cost Accounting Expertise: Apply your deep understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and cost accounting standards to implement and execute effective cost accounting methods and activities.
  • Cost Analysis and Reporting: Assist in setting annual standard costs and conduct comprehensive analysis of product and project costs, including detailed evaluation of material variances and labor efficiencies.
  • Financial Reconciliation: Perform meticulous reconciliations for physical inventory counts to ensure accuracy and maintain data integrity.
  • Financial Statement Preparation: Prepare precise journal entries and meticulously reconcile balance sheet accounts to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial statements.
  • Financial Close and Forecasting: Facilitate timely monthly and quarterly financial closes, ensuring the provision of accurate and reliable financial data, and actively engage in the financial forecast process by preparing estimates, conducting result analysis, and explaining variances.
  • Internal and External Audits: Provide support for internal and external financial audits, collaborating closely with auditors to fulfill their requests.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain the perpetual inventory system of the company, while conducting comprehensive analyses of slow-moving and potentially obsolete inventory items.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Foster collaboration with departments such as procurement, production, and finance to gather relevant data, provide valuable cost-related insights, and support decision-making processes.
  • Financial Statement Analysis: Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial statements, including evaluating cost of goods sold (COGS), variances, and cost reports to ensure accurate cost allocation and reporting.
  • Research and Investigations: Conduct thorough research and investigations into questionable transactions, making necessary corrective entries as required.
Requirements:
  • Education: Hold a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • Experience: Possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in cost accounting or manufacturing environment.
  • Technical Skills: Demonstrate advanced proficiency in Excel, including VLOOKUP, PivotTable, and SUMIF functions.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Possess a strong knowledge of core accounting principles, practices, and financial concepts, showcase excellent mathematical and analytical skills, with a proven ability to solve complex problems, and exhibit effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • ERP Proficiency: Proficiency in working with large ERP's.
  • Adaptability: Show the ability to work well under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and adapt work assignments according to changing priorities.
