About the Role

Alleghany Highlands Community Services Board is seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Peer Support Specialist-Jail Services. As a member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals within the Alleghany Regional Jail who are struggling with mental health challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a supportive atmosphere for individuals receiving services, promoting a sense of calm and well-being.
  • Offer supportive-level counseling throughout the Emergency Custody Order (ECO) process, referring complex issues to relevant staff members as needed.
  • Record individual progress and communicate with the treatment team regarding progress and concerns.
  • Provide follow-up outreach to individuals served through face-to-face and/or phone contact.
Requirements
  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record required.
  • Must be, or have previously been, a recipient of mental health services or substance use disorder services for a mental illness or substance use disorder and be well along in the recovery process.
  • Certified Peer Recovery Specialist.
Benefits

Part-time benefits include employer match on retirement contributions, annual leave based on hours worked, and a pay increase to $11 per hour after obtaining certification.
