Position Overview:

Calspan has been a leader in the field of aircraft Flying Qualities (FQ), Pilot-Induced Oscillation (PIO), and Upset Recovery Training (URT) for many years. Our expertise includes operating variable stability aircraft for research and training purposes. We are currently seeking a skilled Aerospace Test Pilot to enhance our team.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Conduct flight tests and evaluations of modified aircraft for research and development initiatives.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on flight test outcomes and aircraft performance.
  • Oversee all aspects of flight testing, including safety planning, execution, and documentation.
  • Engage in handling qualities demonstrations, upset recovery training, and experiment design.
  • Contribute to the advancement of innovative concepts and standards within the aerospace sector.
  • Develop solutions to intricate challenges, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Work autonomously, exercising significant discretion in determining objectives and methodologies.
  • Act as a consultant to management and represent the organization on significant matters related to policies and objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a recognized Test Pilot School.
  • Possession of an FAA Commercial Pilot License with Multi-Engine Land and Instrument Rating.
  • A minimum of 750 hours of Pilot-in-Command (PIC) time in turbine aircraft.
  • At least five years of progressive experience as a test pilot in a flight-test organization.
  • Eligibility for a Secret Security Clearance is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline is preferred.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in project management and flight testing, particularly in evaluating aircraft stability and control.
  • Experience as a flight test instructor, teaching both theoretical and practical aspects of airborne testing.
