Position Summary:

The Maintenance Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of railcars. This role directs all activities to ensure that railcar repairs are completed on time, adhere to established quality standards, meet budgetary goals, and fulfill or surpass customer expectations while upholding Greenbrier's Core Values of Safety, Quality, Respect for Individuals, and Customer Satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

To excel in this position, the individual must effectively carry out the following essential duties. Additional responsibilities may be assigned to adapt to business needs and evolving practices.

  • Formulates maintenance strategies and establishes necessary protocols to guarantee that high standards of railcar repair are achieved, including labor standard hours and defined customer and company quality benchmarks.
  • Supervises workforce levels to ensure minimal overhead and an optimal inventory of raw materials to align with annual budgetary constraints.
  • Oversees all departmental activities to ensure that production targets are consistently met.
  • Ensures a safe and organized work environment, free from slip/trip hazards, while complying with all site and regulatory safety standards.
  • Manages all departmental maintenance operations, staffing needs, and usage of operational supplies.
  • Communicates objectives and goals, implements company policies, provides coaching, administers disciplinary actions, and fosters positive employee relations.

Qualifications:

The following outlines the requirements necessary to successfully perform the assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Intermediate proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging professionally at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex issues, including swiftly evaluating options and implementing solutions.
  • Capability to recognize and mitigate risks.
  • Previous management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience in railcar repair or a related field.
  • Proficiency in teaching and applying Lean principles and methodologies.
