Job Summary

We are seeking highly skilled and dedicated individuals to serve as Lifeguards at our aquatics centers. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all members and guests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge of lifeguarding skills and protocols, adhering to American Red Cross and Penn State Campus Recreation policies and procedures.
  • Provide vigilant surveillance and preventive lifeguarding to create a safe environment for patrons.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe aquatics center by performing assigned cleaning duties and tasks.
  • Model excellent customer service and rapport with patrons, respectfully managing disagreements and conflicts.
  • Arrive on time for all assigned shifts or secure appropriate coverage to ensure seamless operations.
  • Remain calm and composed in stressful and emergency situations, utilizing sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Maintain regular and frequent communication with supervisory team members.
  • Interact with diverse groups through various situations, demonstrating cultural competence and sensitivity.
  • Use independent judgment and possess a strong sense of integrity, upholding the highest standards of professionalism.

Requirements

  • Obtain and maintain American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
  • Complete Penn State Bloodborne Pathogens training.
  • Pass both criminal and FBI background checks prior to first shift.
  • Ability to work a variable schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and some holiday hours.
  • Ability to accommodate a maximum of 24 hours (International Students 20 hours) per week during the academic year and 40 hours per week during breaks.
