Position Overview
The State Teachers' Retirement System is looking for a dedicated and experienced individual to join our team as a Legal Advisor III specializing in Ethics and Accountability. This role is pivotal in ensuring adherence to legal standards and ethical practices within our organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal guidance on matters related to ethics and compliance, consulting with various stakeholders to ensure understanding and adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
- Collaborate with senior legal staff to develop and implement strategies that promote ethical conduct and accountability across the organization.
- Monitor compliance with the Political Reform Act of 1974 and other relevant regulations, ensuring that all organizational practices align with legal requirements.
- Oversee the handling of Public Records Act requests and other legal inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
- Conduct investigations and provide recommendations regarding Ethics Hotline reports, assisting in the resolution of potential conflicts of interest.
Qualifications
- Active membership with the California State Bar is required.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with all levels of staff and management.
- Proven organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects and meeting strict deadlines.
- Ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide clear, actionable recommendations.
- Demonstrated professionalism and the ability to foster cooperative relationships within the organization.
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and integrity.
Work Environment
This position offers a hybrid work model, allowing for a combination of in-office and remote work arrangements. Employees are expected to maintain a current California address for remote work purposes.
