This role is integral to the mission of Winchester Hospital, providing essential respiratory services as part of a collaborative clinical team. The position plays a crucial role in enhancing quality, safety, and patient satisfaction by delivering precise and comprehensive respiratory care during every patient interaction.

Position Overview:

Qualifications:

Educational Background: An Associate of Science degree in Respiratory Care is required.

Preferred Experience: A minimum of six months working as a Respiratory Therapist in an acute care environment is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Registered Therapist License in the State of Massachusetts.
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist credential, with the expectation to obtain Registered Respiratory Therapist credential within one year of employment.

Life Support Certification: Basic Life Support certification is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer respiratory care to designated patients through comprehensive physical assessments, including vital signs and breath sound evaluations.
  • Deliver prescribed respiratory medications in accordance with physician directives.
  • Respond effectively to medical emergencies, including rapid response team calls.
  • Initiate both non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation to support patients during acute health crises, with the aim of gradually weaning them off support.
  • Perform arterial blood gas analyses by drawing blood, interpreting results, and providing recommendations to the relevant healthcare professionals.
  • Document patient assessments, treatments, and interactions accurately in the electronic medical records system.
  • Assist with airway management procedures, including suctioning, chest physiotherapy, intubation, and extubation.
  • Support limited permit staff in their duties, offering guidance and co-signatures as necessary.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and safety of all respiratory equipment, coordinating with Central Sterile Management for maintenance as needed. Maintain a safe work environment to promote patient satisfaction and a culture of safety, addressing supply and equipment issues promptly to ensure availability and longevity of resources.
