Job Summary:This role is responsible for processing and sterilizing surgical and hospital instruments and equipment, assembling surgical instrument sets and trays, and distributing patient care supplies and equipment.
Responsibilities:- Decontaminate and process instruments, including compiling instrument sets, counting instruments, and recording counts.
- Sterilize instruments, trays, basins, etc. with the appropriate exposure/dry times.
- Prepare instruments for "immediate use" sterilization when necessary.
- Maintain a clean and orderly environment in the department by daily wiping of counters, sinks, exterior surface of autoclaves, and high disinfection equipment.
- Clean the autoclave chambers on a weekly basis.
- Assist Operating Room Housekeeping with room turn over, terminal cleaning of Operating Room suites, and daily duties, if necessary.
- Assist with picking supplies/instruments for upcoming cases.
- Perform daily diagnostic testing on sterilizing equipment, including test packs, biological indicators, and diagnostic cycle for Endoscope Processors.
- Evaluate instruments for function and safety when reprocessing.
- Provide reprocessing services for ancillary department instruments, including Emergency Room, Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, Radiology.
- Identify and evaluate loaner instruments prior to processing.
- Record loaner information in a log for tracking.
- Maintain Biological Incubator and log; evaluate for biological test results.
- Provide technical services and assist in operating room, recovery, outpatient endoscopy, and central sterile as assigned and directed.
- Work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and report to the perioperative services manager.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred
- Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
- Sterile Processing Technician certification: Required
- Certified Board Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST): Required
